Featuring a developed version of the previous model’s S55 engine, the new 3.0-litre, twin turbo straight six, now designated S58, packs a supercar baiting 510bhp and 650NM of torque in Competition spec, which is enough thrust to endow the M3 with a 0-62mph time of just 3.5 seconds.
But this model is much more than simply a more powerful engine, as it’s the first M3 to feature BMW’s sophisticated xDrive four-wheel drive system. In most driving conditions, this advanced eight-speed transmission diverts 100% of the drive to the rear  wheels, only transferring torque to the front wheels when needed, making the G80 an exceptionally capable driving tool all year round in all weather conditions. It also has a selectable two-wheel drive mode, which is the perfect setting to enjoy the dynamic purity of the G80 M3’s precision handling on a circuit, where functions such as the 10-stage adjustable traction control, M Track mode and M Drift analyser also come to the fore.
